About this type of digital offset printing

This is  Xeikon digital technology that produces business quality printing and offers significant savings of time and money usually spent in traditional film and proofing.  Since this is digital smaller quantities of binders can now be produced at reasonable prices.

Digital technology prints documents directly from electronic files to paper. And herein lies the major difference with the traditional (offset) printing process: a number of expensive and time-consuming intermediate steps, such as plate imaging and mounting, have been omitted.

A comparison to another market:

For many years your only choice for taking pictures was 35 m/m cameras whether the throwaway kind or the more expensive SLR camera this was your only choice. It produced the highest possible quality in a picture. Then digital cameras came out, the quality was fine and only got better, there was no longer the need for 35 m/m cameras for most general use.

Same with turned edge binders

For years your only choice for producing turned edge binders was by large very expensive 6 color offset printing press, the cost for set up and printing is expensive especially at lower quantities.  Often like the 35 m/m cameras the quality was way more than what was needed. Now with digital process you can get low cost high quality business binders  The future is digital.

On the more technical  side

The dry toner electrophotography process however is significantly different than conventional offset printing. The press is limited to process colors (cyan, magenta, yellow and black). Spot (pantone) colors will be converted to the closest “process equivalents”. The press is capable of printing high resolution (170 lpi, 600 dpi), allowing excellent reproduction of photographic images and subtle tones.

There are however, inherent characteristics that sometimes can not be eliminated including: process equivalents not matching PMS colors exactly, some banding (especially in light coverage flood areas), some ghosting (especially around text knock outs in flood areas).
